The Greenlandic photographic artist Inuuteq Storch’s photos express an artistic endeavor that goes beyond the purely documentary. His snapshot-based images from Greenland and New York embody a sensitive and expressive visual language. The photographs reveal small worlds, where intimate moments, tenderness, everyday tableaus, material accumulations, and unfiltered nature are intertwined, forming part of a broader anthropological and aesthetic framework. While the human portraits often focus on absent gazes or spatial context, the images of objects frequently evoke traces of something spiritual or emotional. Thus, the material and the spiritual are brought together. At the same time, Storch’s use of saturated colors and visual noise contributes to a strong artistic expression that manages to embrace Greenland’s past, present, and future.

Kenn Mouritzen is a professor in Danish language and art history who has researched Innuteq Storchs works.

The talk will be in English.
