Open call 2022
Open call 22
Le Bicolore – platform for contemporary Danish art at La Maison du Danemark in Paris, is looking for a professional curator to work on an exhibition of contemporary art in an international perspective. Focal point: the Danish-French axis – not as limitation, but as point of departure. Outlook: global. A research trip to Denmark will form the basis for a group exhibition, to be held at Le Bicolore / Maison du Danemark, autumn 2023.
Selection criteria
We are looking for a curator working at a professional level of curatorial practice, with experience in French and international exhibition production.
Research trip to Denmark
Applicants for the position will be asked to submit a short statement of interest, on the basis of which three candidates will be invited to participate in a research trip to Denmark in late August 2022, to meet artists, curators, researchers and generators of knowledge.
After the research trip, each of the three candidates will submit an exhibition proposal. A jury of professionals in the field will then select one of these proposed concepts, which will be developed into an exhibition at Le Bicolore at Maison du Danemark, 142 avenue des Champs Elysées in Paris.
All three candidates will receive an honorarium of 1.250 € for submission of an exhibition concept. The curator selected to prepare the exhibition will receive an additional honorarium of 8.000 €.
Budget
Production of the exhibition will be managed and marketed by Le Bicolore. The overall production budget for the exhibition is 30.000 €, in addition to the curator’s honorarium. The production budget is allocated to cover transport, insurance, exhibition design, press and PR, etc. The curator will be at liberty to seek further external funding in order to increase the overall budget.

Le Bicolore is a platform for contemporary Danish art to French and international visitors, located in Maison du Danemark in Paris on what is probably one of the most famous streets in the world, Avenue des Champs-Élysées. Le Bicolore presents probing and stimulating exhibitions and events, showcasing work that is cutting-edge, ingenious, reflective. We host 4-5 exhibitions annually, with a wide variety in form and content: from VR & interaction, to design & architecture, paintings & textiles.
Le Bicolore offers a unique position as cultural platform: a platform that offers Danish practitioners in the arts an introduction to Paris – where they can expand networks, reach an international audience and, not least, develop their own art – and offers the French public an introduction to Denmark.
The curating of exhibitions will be aimed at supporting, reflecting and acting as a catalyst for Denmark and the surrounding world in which the works are created. The exhibitions will ask questions, take chances and motivate discussion. A few keywords for future seasons: social relevance, feminism, digital & media art forms.
OPEN CALL 22 is a 3-year exhibition project, funded by Bikuben Fonden, det Obelske Familiefond and Statens Kunstfond, of which Le Royaume des Clown, currently at show at Le Bicolore is the first.
