Ravage

Peter Martensen is an unusual artist. Constantly seeking artistic and existential truth he makes his own way via his painting. The notions of melancholy, distance, indifference, detachment, absence and silence may spring to mind when you first encounter his work. But they fall short of its breadth, vitality and relevance. In Martensen's pictorial universe, we are confronted by striking, odd, ambiguous images that move us by their undemonstrative acuity. “Ravage” will be the artist's first solo exhibition in France. It premieresin spring 2017 at the Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole (MAMC) and is part of an ongoing partnership centring on Peter Martensen's work between MAMC and the Maison du Danemark.
