Martin Brandt Hansen

Lives and works in Copenhagen.

Martin Brandt Hansen works mainly in sculpture and installation, with a style marked by his Greenlandic origins. His practice explores the mythology of Inuit culture, as seen in his interpretation of the classic figure of the tupilaq, where he questions and explores traditional scales and materials.

The objects in Brandt Hansen's work range from his sculptural interpretations of traditional Inuit artefacts to the representation of manufactured objects imported from Greenland - illustrating the classic iconography of Western mass culture and its influence. These objects, all of which reflect a wider historical, social and cultural significance, come together to create a strong visual narrative.

Martin Brandt Hansen holds a Master of Arts from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited in venues such as the Andersen Gallery (2022), the ARKEN Museum (2024) and the Nuuk Art Museum (2020, 2024).
